Not everything that helped us through one season belongs in the next. Some things have done their job. Others still make life feel good. And a few are taking up space simply because we have gotten used to carrying them.
As I have explored meditation and wellness over the years, one thing has become clearer to me: taking care of yourself is not always about adding another practice, another goal, or another thing to get right. Sometimes it starts with paying attention to what is already there.
What still supports you? What has stopped feeling like you? And what might become possible if you made a little room?
Keep what genuinely gives something back
There are things in our lives that make us feel like ourselves. Movement that feels good in our bodies. A meal we enjoy making. Time with people who leave us feeling energized. A favorite corner of the house where we can sit for a moment and simply be.
They do not have to look impressive or be part of a perfect routine. The question is whether they support the life you are actually living.
I love the way meditation brings me back to that question. A little time to notice myself makes it easier to recognize which habits, spaces, and relationships deserve my attention.
Try asking yourself: What is one small thing I already do that makes my day feel better? How can I give it a little more room this week?
Release what no longer fits
Letting go does not have to mean a dramatic life change. Sometimes it is as simple as deciding that an old expectation no longer gets to make all your decisions.
Maybe it is the pressure to turn every free moment into something productive. Maybe it is a routine that worked beautifully once but no longer matches your schedule. Maybe it is the idea that rest only counts after you have done everything for everyone else.
You can appreciate what something brought to an earlier chapter without bringing it into every chapter that follows.
This is also true of our spaces. A room does not need an entire makeover to feel different. Clear one surface. Let in some light. Move the things you actually enjoy within reach. Give yourself a home that works with the way you want to feel now.
Try asking yourself: What am I doing out of habit that does not feel especially helpful anymore?
Make room for what brings you back to life
We often talk about slowing down, but feeling well is not only about being still. Sometimes what we need is fresh energy.
That could mean getting outside, moving your body, cooking something nourishing, making a plan with a friend, learning something new, or giving yourself an afternoon with absolutely no agenda.
There is room for both rest and excitement. You do not have to choose one version of wellness and live there forever.
When I think about The Lotus Lair, I think about having a place within ourselves to return to. Sometimes that return looks like meditation. Sometimes it looks like movement, a more supportive home, or a change in the way we spend our time. The point is to notice what we need and make space for it.
Try asking yourself: If I had a little more space in my week, what would I genuinely look forward to?
Your five-minute check-in
You do not have to figure everything out today. Open your journal, sit with your tea, or simply take a quiet moment. Finish these three sentences:
- I want to keep... something that helps me feel supported.
- I am ready to release... something that no longer needs so much of my energy.
- I want to make room for... something that makes me feel more like myself.
Choose just one small action from your answers. Let that be enough for now.
From a place where you feel more supported, you may be surprised by how much else begins to flow.
Restore. Recenter. Rejuvenate. Come back to yourself.
